Gretler wins CWS & starts pro career in span of 6 days

This summer has featured academic and athletic milestones in mass quantities for Michael Gretler. He earned his degree in finance from Oregon State University, was drafted in the tenth round of the MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates and then on July 4th, Gretler made his professional debut with the West Virginia Black Bears.

Perhaps we should not overlook a notable stretch of baseball in the month of June. Gretler was a key member of the Oregon State squad that defeated Arkansas in the College World Series finals. The Washington state native hit -305 in his senior season. Days after bringing the trophy back to the OSU campus, Gretler was headed east to West Virginia.

Gretler was not the only Black Bear to play in the CWS finals. Catcher Grant Koch was in the opposing dugout for Arkansas.

After a few hectic weeks, Gretler is now settling in as the Black Bears primary third baseman. Through Monday, he reached base in five of six games, with a 3 -RBI game against Williamsport last Friday.
